Malus Domestica Stem Cell Culture Extract
The apple stem cell extract is derived from a rare Swiss variety of Malus Domestica, the Uttwiler Spätlauber. This particular variety of applesis well known for its longevity and storability, as well as long-living tissue stem cells.
It is used in personal care formulations for for its ability to promote the reduction of appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and dark circles.
The technology behind sourcing the apple stem cells was recognised as an eco breakthrough at the Rio20+ Sustainability Conference in 2012. Very little plant material is required in order to cultivate a large batch of stem cells for product formulation, little to no agricultural land is required and as such, there is a significant reduction of water consumption compared to conventional biomass production. There is also no need for fertiliser or pesticides, so toxic chemicals are not being introduced into our environments.
The cultivation of apple stem cells support conservation practices. There are unfortunately very few trees of the Uttwiler Spätlauber left in the world. As such, the Uttwiler Spätlauber was integrated into Swiss National Action Plan for the Conservation of Plant Genetic Resources in Food and Agriculture and is protected by the ProSpecie Rara - a Swiss, non-profit foundation whose purpose is to conserve and promote genetic diversity of flora and fauna. A majority of the remaining trees are organically cultivated by local Swiss farmer, who supplies his fruit for stem cell cultivation.
