A Sustainability Journey
So – hello there! Welcome.
Allow me to take a wild guess; you’ve somehow landed here, through sheer coincidence, pure chance, or a serendipitous search, because you’ve been wanting to start making more sustainable choices in some way, shape or form. And to that I say, congratulations – you’ve just taken an important first step.
I’m Jesse, writing to you from the land of the Wurundjeri Woi wurrung people of the Kulin Nation, here in Coburg, Melbourne. I acknowledge them as the traditional custodians of the land on which I live and work, and I pay my respect to all Elders past, present, and emerging. This land was, is, and will always be Aboriginal land.
My journey towards sustainability has been eventful, enlightening, and remarkably gratifying. My personal motivation and passion for this cause has come from an innate, overwhelming urge to be more aware of my environmental impact; to mindfully respect, recognise, and help preserve the world around me through making better choices that minimise waste and avoid harm.
Unfortunately, living sustainably is not always straightforward, and can be fraught with confusing contradictions. Making switches towards a more sustainable, environmentally-aware way of life can also feel huge and overwhelming, which could then lead to discouragement.
Sometimes it helps to hear from someone else who’s been there, done that; over the years, I have learned many valuable lessons, and made numerous decisions in changing the way I think, make, wear, consume, and dispose – some of which have fared better than others. Now it’s time to pay it forward!
From reducing our reliance on single-use items to thinking about what we eat and where we shop, there are heaps of small, simple steps we all can take as we learn how to be more mindful, respectful, and aware of our impact every day. Plus, Sustainable Choice has lots of useful resources for you to peruse, available to your heart’s content – check them out when you can.
Everyone’s story is different, but we all can do our own bits and pieces to collectively drive change, one little decision at a time. Wouldn’t that be nice?
Thank you for joining me, it’s so nice to have you here. Now let’s kick off.
