Nestlé Cocoa Plan & UTZ certified cocoa

Our renowned chocolatey MILO® taste comes from the natural cacao tree beans. The beans are fermented, roasted, shelled, and ground to make cocoa. The Nestlé Cocoa Plan aims to improve the lives of cocoa farmers, their families and their communities. Our vision is to help cocoa farmers run profitable farms, respect the environment and enjoy a good quality of life, and for their children to benefit from an education and see cocoa farming as a respectable profession. All of the cocoa in MILO® is UTZ Certified – one of the largest sustainability programs for cocoa, and a highly credible not-for-profit organisation, which shares our long-term commitment to improving conditions for cocoa farmers, while understanding the realities and challenges we face on the ground.

Re-purposing our Tin

All of our MILO® range carries the Australasian Recycling Label, which helps you to recycle right by showing you which bin to put each piece of packaging in. While you can recycle your MILO® tin and lid, have you thought about how you could use it another way? Some of our MILO® fans love to use them for money boxes, pencil tins and so much more.

Renewable Energy

Nestlé has committed to a holistic, science-based target approach to tackling climate change, with an ambition to achieve zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Our factory in Smithtown, NSW where MILO® is made is using energy derived from a local waste stream that is also a renewable source of energy. More than 80 per cent of the energy the factory uses comes from locally sourced sawdust and the ash that is created is then used for potting mix and soil conditioning.
