Our passion for originality is in everything we do

A lot goes into making KFC an amazing place to work. Learn more about our passion for supporting our people to be their best selves, our journey to providing more choice transparency and nutritional improvement, and our sustainable business practices – all of which are important to the hundreds of local communities we love being a part of. We are proud to publish our first modern slavery statement as part of our compliance with Australia’s Modern Slavery Act (Cth). Whilst many see KFC as a food business, we see ourselves as a people business and we put them forward in everything we do. We are committed to strengthening our structure and initiatives to ensure that our “people first” mentality continues to remain at the heart of our business and supply chains.

KFC Sustainability Actions

Recycling

So much of what we do is dependent on having a happy, healthy planet so you could say we're pretty keen on making sure it stays that way. We were actually the first Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) to get involved in 'Do the Right Thing, Use the Right Bin', a nationwide recycling initiative in partnership with the Australian Packaging Convenant. Recycling systems have been installed in our restaurants across Australia and we're continuing to grow our recycling program front-of-house for bottles, cans and cups. We also partner with an accredited third party supplier who picks up our cooking oil and processes it at various plants to make products such as biodiesel and animal feed.

Energy and Environment

Not to brag, but in 2013, we were the first QSR to open a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified restaurant at East Maitland in NSW. Our ambition is to design and build all new restaurants to be a LEED certifiable (or equivalent) standard, and so far, we're making good on that promise.

Products sourcing

We reckon you can't get much better than what's already in your backyard - that's why we try to source local true blue Aussie ingredients where possible. All of our chicken comes from Aussie poultry farms and most of our fresh produce (such as lettuce and tomatoes) are grown Down Under, as is the flour we use to make our burger buns, tortillas and dinner rolls. The potatoes we use to make our famous chips generally come from Tassie and Victoria, and the high-oleic canola oil we cook 'em in is also home-grown. Sometimes due to low cropping levels (e.g. caused by bad weather), we might need to source produce or oil from overseas - but that's always as a last resort and only temporary.
