We are Carbon Neutral

We have been a carbon neutral company since 2018, and are certified by the Carbon Reduction Institute as a NoCO2 Business. This means we offset 100% of our emissions by purchasing carbon credits from a range of projects.

Go-To And Palm Oil

We are acutely aware of the ethical, environmental, and social implications of using palm oil from Southeast Asia, we consciously avoid using palm oil in our skin care. ur founder, Zoë, is an active and passionate ambassador for The Orangutan Project, and is very well versed in this subject. She has seen firsthand the devastation that deforestation creates for the land and the locals in Borneo and knows the desperate plight of the orangutan is very, very real. (Donate HERE.) The big picture, however, is far from black and white, and contrary to popular belief and despite very best intentions, boycotting palm oil is a misguided way to help this dire situation. Since the land itself – and its ability to create crops and therefore money – is what is of value, if it's not palm oil, then it will be coconuts, coal, rubber etc. Donating money to buy back forest is far more useful. Where We're At Many ingredients used in skin care are derived from palm oil, and they are not easily identified. There are multiple steps using multiple manufacturers in the process of obtaining some of the high-end ingredients. To further complicate it, some of the intermediate ingredients can be derived from either palm or coconut, and manufacturers may not segregate the sources. What fun! As we dug deep (real deep) in to the supply chain of our ingredients, we discovered that some of the ingredients we use are more likely to be palm oil derived than from coconut. These ingredients include a surfactant, emulsifier, and a derivative in one of our fragrances. We have confirmed that the suppliers of these ingredients are members of the Round Table on Sustainable Palm oil (RSPO). This organisation audits and certifies suppliers based on their level of sustainability and traceability. However, we want to be sure that any palm oil used to make ingredients for Go-To is completely sustainable, and aspire to the highest level of sustainability, called Segregated and Identity Preserved. This is where there is no mixing of supply from unknown locations and is a 100% guarantee of sustainability. This is the Palm Oil Holy Grail, and currently nearly impossible to achieve, not just for us, but for everyone: The demand simply does not meet the supply.

Go-To is delighted to work with Reforest Now as our key charity partner.

Reforest Now is a non-profit (for impact!) environmental NGO that protects, conserves, and regenerates forests. Reforest Now’s mission is to return rainforest back to the land where it once stood and to protect existing rainforests of Australia and the rich ecosystems within by growing and planting trees. And we want to help them do just that. They prioritise vulnerable and endangered species, genetic diversity of the trees, biodiversity, and ecological awareness of the planting sites for long-term survival of the trees planted. So far, they’ve planted 45,600 trees, restored 25 hectares, grown 200 endangered species, and sequestered 8751.25 tonnes of CO2. Go-To aims to have planted over 40,000 trees across 150 species in the biodiverse region of Northern NSW, by the end of 2021! In addition to our Reforest Now, Go-To also supports The Children’s Ground, The FRRR and Look Good Feel Better as well as numerous grassroots organisations like local schools and hospitals. We are proud to be doin’ our bit!

Cruelty Free

Go-To is proud to be officially accredited by Choose Cruelty-Free Limited as a cruelty-free company. This means that NONE of our products or individual ingredients have been tested on animals. In addition, many of our products are suitable for vegans. (In the interest of complete transparency, there is one animal Go-To extensively tests on, but that’s the founder Zoë, and she totally asked for it.)

Our shipping and packaging has changed

We have made the switch to cardboard lo-fi eco shippers that are made from 66% recycled material and 34% kraft paper which was produced using sustainable forestry practices. They are 100% recyclable, printed with water-based ink and use no glue. We use recycled and recyclable paper void fill made with FSC certified suppliers to protect products within the shipper. We have discontinued the use of stickers, tissue paper and any unnecessary packaging in our lo-fi shippers. For those who choose to have a bit of fancy, we provide the option to choose a more luxe gift box. This peachy package is made from FSC certified board and is fully recyclable as is the tissue paper used within the gift box.

We’ve limited waste packaging

We’ve removed unnecessary plastic wrapping on certain products such as Face Case. There is zero packing plastic or polystyrene in any of our orders, and we use compostable poly mailers bags, stickers, and tissue. We are eliminating outer cartons on all products that can safely ship without them, and when we do require cartons to protect the product we source cardboard that is FSC certified and use vegetable based ink that dries by absorption and air. Our aqueous varnish is water soluble and all cartons are fully recyclable.

We’re working with local suppliers

In order to reduce our carbon footprint, we make every effort to work with local suppliers right here in Australia.. Our eco boxes and product unit cartons are sourced and made in Sydney (the boxes used to be sent to Sydney from Melbourne and we are proud to have found a Sydney supplier and remove that interstate freight leg .) The majority of our products are manufactured here in Australia and by June 2021 we will have moved all of our manufacturing from New Zealand to Australia.
